Course Management
Streamline Your Course
It is important to remove all items that are not being used in the course. This makes it easier for the students to find their way around the course, and it will make things easier for you in the long run.
It is especially important to choose to either use the Email tool or the Messaging tool. Problems consistently arise in courses where both tools are available, as users aren't always sure which to use - or which they have used to deliver messages.

- Disable Tools that Aren't Being Used
- Choose between Email and Messages
Remove Unnecessary Options from Course Menu
You may want to remove certain Course Menu items that you will not be using. This is a really important task, as it will make the course delivery easier on you -- and it will make navigating & using the course easier on your students.
*Important: Removing Content Areas from the Course Menu will actually delete them from your course. Any contents will be permanently deleted in the process. Please be careful when removing/deleting anything in your course.

Course Menu - Modify an Item
- Go to the Course Menu and locate an item that you would like to remove from the list. Move your mouse over the item.
- Click the arrow icon to the right of the item to access the contextual menu, and click Delete.
- You will receive a warning message, possibly containing information regarding items contained in the item you are deleting. These items would also be deleted.
- Click OK to proceed.
Disable Tools that Aren't Being Used
As soon as you get your course shell, start to think about which tools you will be using and disable the ones you will not be using. You have the option to simply hide a tool from the students, or you can completely disable the tool in the course (which would also remove the student from your view).
Hide Tools from the Students:
This is only an option if you are using a Tools Area to give students access to the tools enabled in the course.
- Go to: Course Menu > Tools (you may have given your Tools Area a different name)
- Click the Hide Link button to hide any tool that you don't want the students to see.
Disabling Tools Coursewide:
- Go to: Control Panel > Customization > Tool Availability
- Look through the list of tools and uncheck the checkbox in the first column ('Available') of any tool you wish to disable.
- Click Submit to process the changes.
