Sending Email

There are two tools in Blackboard that allow messages to be sent to individual users.

Only one of the following tools should be available in your course. Your instructor should make it clear which tool will be used in your course, to avoid any confusion.

  • Send Email - Uses the email system to deliver messages to users' email accounts (details below)

  • Messages - Messages are delivered and stored within each Blackboard course (details on the Messages page)


To use the e-mail tool look for it in the Course Menu under Tools or the Email link.

This tool allows you to send an email to another user in your course, via the my.ryerson email system. The email will be sent to their Ryerson my.ryerson email account from yours (if they are Ryerson students, staff or faculty -- guests will have non-Ryerson email accounts).

Blackboard does not store or retrieve the emails – it only acts as a tool to send the messages out to the my.ryerson system.

To Retrieve the Email sent via Blackboard:

If you are a Ryerson student, staff or faculty member, your RMail account is associated with your my.ryerson portal account. If this is a case, you can access the my.ryerson email system at http://mail.ryerson.ca. For guests of Ryerson, please check the email account that you provided when your account was set up.

 

To Attach Files to Email:

Click on Attach a File and you will be able to Browse your computer for files to attach.
