What are Blackboard Notifications?
The Blackboard Notifications feature provides users with updates related to courses or organizations that they are a member of.
As this is a pilot phase, we may make changes to the way the notifications work, and how they appear.
Currently, this feature is configured to send a nightly digest email to users, with a collection of updates for any course or organization where they have opted in to the notifications. The email contains the list of items updated in the last 24 hours.
Users may opt-in to use this feature.
(Until August 30, all courses received the email automatically. This was changed to prevent unnecessary emails.)
Members of a course or organization shell may choose to opt-in to the notifications emails. This feature is not automatically enabled.
As we add more features to the notification, you may choose to receive updates for changes to other areas of a Blackboard shell, including grades. During this pilot phase, we have only enabled the notifications for changes to content items.
Can I disable this feature for all members of my course/organization?
No. Blackboard Notifications are controlled by the individual user. This means that they cannot be turned off for all of the members of a course or organization by the Instructor or Leader.
Can I disable this feature for myself?
Yes. Each user can configure certain aspects of their own Blackboard Notifications. Each course or organization shell can be configured separately, allowing the user to determine whether they receive notifications for specific shells.
How can I configure my notifications?

- Log in at my.ryerson.ca and click on the “online courses & organizations” tab at the top of the screen.
- In the top bar, click on the “My Places” icon (it is shaped like the silhouette of a person).

- A “My Places” window will appear. Click “Edit Notification Settings”. (“Edit Notification Settings” can also be accessed by following the link at the end of the Notification emails you receive.)
- To modify the notifications for a group of courses or organizations, see the Bulk Edit Notification Settings and select an appropriate group.
- In the next screen, you can Select Course / Organization to determine which shells are modified. Select the name of the course/organization in the left Items to Select column, then click the arrow pointing to the right to move the selections to the Selected Items column.
- Settings - read through the list of available settings, and use the checkboxes to enable/disable notifications to your Blackboard Dashboard, Mobile or Email.
- Click Submit when done.
