Beverly Antle & Catherine Frazee Award in Activism for Social Justice
Up to $1000
This award was established to remember our colleague Beverly Antle while recognizing the personal and professional relationship she developed with Catherine Frazee. For a final year student in the Disability Studies program whose Independent Study promotes activism for social justice in areas that most closely align with Beverly Antle's and Catherine Frazee's commitment to eliminate disability discrimination through scholarly research and creative activities in the areas of: children and youth, social exclustion, professional engagement, systemic analysis, activism for social justice, and ethics and genetics.

M. K. Chant Disability Studies Awards
Up to $2200 x 2
For returning students who demonstrate a commitment to working with or on behalf of people with disabilities coupled with openness to new ideas and approaches; open to Ontario resident students who are registered in the Disability Studies degree program; minimum B+ average; completion of three courses DST501 and two additional courses; demonstrated financial need. Must submit a 500 word statement demonstrating commitment to working with or on behalf of people with disabilities coupled with an openness to new ideas and approaches.

For demonstrated financial need for students to complete the program on a correspondence/distance education basis.

Civitan International Foundation of Canada Disability Studies Citizenship Award
Up to $1000 x 2
To a student in the Disability Studies program who demonstrates the capacity to be a “builder of good citizenship”, committed to making a difference in the world, and who demonstrates the capacity to listen to voices and stories of those whose citizenship is precarious, and demonstrates evidence of commitment to issues of social justice as they relate to supporting people with intellectual and physical disabilities. Must enroll in the first required course DST501 Perspectives in Disability I and employed by a community agency serving people with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Jake Edelson Award in Community Organizing
Up to $1000
To an undergraduate student who is committed to collective work through community organizing and who has demonstrated academic excellence. Must have participated in a community campaign to remove barriers for people with disabilities; demonstrate by example how collective action can build towards social justice; engaged with creative initiatives and/or projects for social change. Must have completed DST501 and DST613; achieved high academic performance; ability to understand the importance of community building given the realities of social exclusion; demonstrate participation in a community campaign for social justice; and demonstrate financial need.

Harry E. Foster Memorial Award
Up to $1150
This award recognizes the lifetime work of Harry E. Foster, and in particular his efforts to initiate and coordinate research and education projects in intellectual disability at universities across Canada. Must demonstrate consistently high academic achievement, work/personal experience in the field of intellectual disability, evidence of professional commitment, contribution to the reputation of the School of Disability Studies, and demonstrate financial need.

Beth Foulkes Community Living Award
Up to $1000
The award will be given to a part-time student officially enrolled in the Disability Studies program; completing their final year; demonstrates overall excellence in their studies with a CGPA of 3.40 or higher; acceptance in post degree studies; demonstrates commitment to social incusion through scholarly and community work; must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; be an Ontario resident; demonstrate financial need.

Emma Hardie International Disability Award
Up to $1000
This award honours the memory of Emma Hardie: budding intellectual, passionate disability advocate, gifted mentor, international traveler, activist for peace and committed volunteer. To a student who demonstrates consistent academic excellence in their studies with a CGPA of 3.40 or higher for the current and previous academic year; demonstrates financial need; demonstrates a commitment to the following interests: aspiration to academic excellence, curiosity about disability in a global context, personal commitment to social inclusion, human dignity and peace, mentoring/helping others to be the best they can be, and demonstrating a commitment to those who are socially and economically disadvantaged through volunteering in the community; has an intention to pursue travel and/or study with an international focus.

Malcolm Jeffreys Memorial Leadership Award
Up to $1000
To a student who demonstrates excellence and leadership promise; has achieved high academic standing; exhibits potential leadership qualities; and demonstrates by example a commitment to improving the quality of life for disabled Canadians. Must have completed DST501 and two additional DST courses, achieved high academic performance, the ability to advance the understanding of equality and inclusion, demonstrated commitment to improving life for other students and contributing to the reputation of the School; contribution to the reputation of the school; and demonstrated financial need.

Bill and Lucille Owen Award on Public Policy
Up to $2000
This award recognizes Bill and Lucille Owen and their lifetime work to secure social justice through public policy. To a student in the Disability Studies Program who has achieved high academic standing and who shares their commitment to equity through social policy. The award will enable a Disability Studies student to attend a conference and present a paper on a policy issue of major concern to people with disabilities. Must demonstrate consistently high academic achievement, demonstrate financial need; and be a resident of Ontario.

Karen Tench Memorial Award in Community Inclusion and Advocacy
Up to $1000
To a student who has achieved high academic standing and who possesses the qualities so associated with Karen Tench: leadership by example, demonstrated innovation, personal commitment, respect for families, courage to speak out for others, and the capacity to embrace life with laughter. Must have completed DST501 and four additional DST courses; achieve high academic performance; ability to advance the understanding of equality and inclusion; and demonstrates by example a commitment to improving the quality of life for disabled Canadians.
