Graduating in Absentia

Students enrolled in their final course, year or semester of their program must apply to graduate by the appropriate deadlines.

If you are unable to attend Convocation ceremonies, you may obtain your award document/parchment by the following methods:

A) during the pick-up period after Convocation;

B) sending your proxy to pick it up on your behalf;

C) by having it mailed to you.

A) Pick-up Period

  • The Fall 2013 Convocation award document pick-up period begins on Monday Oct. 21, 2013 and ends on Friday Nov. 1, 2013.
  • The Spring 2014 Convocation award document pick-up period begins on Wednesday, June 18th and ends on Wednesday, July 2nd.
  • Award documents/parchments will be available for pick-up at Enrollment Services and Student Fees (POD-64), lower level of the Podium building, 350 Victoria Street. Please visit their website for hours of operation.

B) Sending Your Proxy

  • If you are unable to personally pick-up your graduation award document, you may send your proxy.
  • You must provide your proxy with an authorization letter, required to be submitted to Enrollment Services and Student Fees, when picking up your graduation award document.
  • The authorization letter must be signed by you and include the following: your name, student number, program and term of graduation, and your proxy's name. Please note your proxy must present photo identification in order for your graduation award document to be released.

C) By Mail

  • Following the 2 week pick-up period, remaining award documents will be mailed to graduates. It is important that you ensure your mailing address is current by checking RAMSS (my.ryerson.ca) or by visiting Enrollment Services and Student Fees.
  • Ryerson is not responsible for documents that are lost or damaged in the mail. There is a $70 document reissue fee for replacing lost or damaged document.

Please Note: your award document/parchment (whether you attend your convocation ceremony or you are graduating in absentia) will not be issued until all outstanding fees owed to the University are cleared.
