Grade Scales – Undergraduate
1965 - 1970 Semester System

In the academic year 1965-66, a semester system in which the academic year consisted of two semesters, was instituted for Business Administration and Engineering Technology programs; other programs remained on the yearly basis. The Hotel program was run on both systems, the first year being semesterized, while the second and third years remained as year programs.

Each academic year was made up of two terms in the following pattern: Semesters 1 and 2 - First Year; Semesters 3 and 4 - Second Year; Semesters 5 and 6 - Third Year. Any semester could occur in one of three terms: Fall, Winter and Summer. The trimester system was discontinued in 1971, and admission then occurred in the fall only. The summer semester was replaced by a shorter Summer School.

Note:   A special accelerated, combined semester of Semesters 1 and 2 in Business Administration and Engineering Technology was offered to graduates of Grade 13. This special program was considered equivalent to first year. It was discontinued for Business Administration after the Fall term of 1967, and for Engineering Technology after the Fall term of 1970.

Averages and Grades:

Up to September 1969, all students were assessed using overall averages for each semester or year. Students were rated on a scale of marks ranging from 1 to 100, with 50 being a passing mark in individual courses. An overall average of 60 was necessary for promotion.
