Grade Scales – Undergraduate
1970 - August 1984
In Winter 1969, Ryerson adopted a course promotion system in lieu of promoting students on the basis of an overall average. Under course promotion, students needed to repeat only failed courses. Academic status was determined on the basis of overall performance. A number of programs operated on course promotion during the 1968-69 and 1969-70 academic years. All programs changed over to this system in September 1970, and under this system, numeric grades were dropped and the following grades introduced:

May Continue:
Student has successfully completed all courses in a term and is eligible to register in the following program:
May Continue- See Department for Courses: Student has not successfully completed all courses taken during a term, but is eligible to register in the following term:
On Probation - See Department for Courses: Student must determine the condition under which they may continue in the program by consulting the Program Chair/Director.
Ineligible to Continue: Student has not cleared all requirements necessary to proceed to the next level of the program.
Final Term Review for Graduation: Student's academic record will be reviewed to ensure that all graduation requirements have been met.
Must Withdraw from Program: Student not eligible to return to the program (issued after consideration given to a student's academic performance).
