In September 1987 Ryerson expanded its grading system and adopted the following grade points:

| A | Excellent | 7.0 | 80-89% |
| B+ | Very Good | 6.0 | 75-79% |
| B | Good (above average) | 5.0 | 70-74% |
| C+ | Satisfactory | 4.0 | 65-69% |
| C | Adequate | 3.0 | 60-64% |
| D+ | Passing | 2.0 | 55-59% |
| D | Minimum Passing | 1.0 | 50-54% |
| F | Failed | 0.0 | 0-49% |
| F-S | Redeemable Failure | 0.0 | 0-49% |
