Definitions

Advanced Standing – recognizes the completion of similar courses or programs by granting admission into a level higher than first semester.  If you are eligible for Advanced Standing you will be informed on your Offer of Admission.  Also see Degree Completion and Direct Entry.

Advisement Report – is a self-service report available on the RAMSS tab of my.ryerson.ca to full-time undergraduate students measuring progress in meeting program graduation requirements with applicable Transfer Credits and completed Ryerson courses.

Basis of Admission – as determined by Undergraduate Admissions is the confirmation of the academic requirements used to grant an Offer of Admission or Advanced Standing for a program.

Course Outline – or course syllabus, is a detailed course overview that includes a description of the course, objectives, topics, readings, assignments and an evaluation scheme.  Course outlines are used to determine an equivalency to a Ryerson course.

Degree Completion - recognizes the completion of an approved college diploma or university degree by granting admission into an upper year of a specific Ryerson program or a specialized degree completion curriculum.  Also see Advanced Standing and Direct Entry.

Direct Entry - recognizes the completion of approved college diploma by granting admission into an upper year of a program.  If you are eligible for Direct Entry you will be informed on your Offer of Admission.  Also see Advanced Standing and Degree Completion.

Offer of Admission – is an official letter issued by Admissions informing an applicant of their admission into a Ryerson program.  The Offer specifies program, admit term and semester level; as well as possible conditions, restrictions and deadlines pertaining to the Offer.

Transfer Credits –are equivalent to Ryerson courses and granted for post-secondary courses completed at accredited institutions prior to being admitted to Ryerson.

Undergraduate Calendar – is an official publication that includes official university policy, Ryerson program and curriculum information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I apply for Transfer Credits? Answer

A: Transfer Credit applications may be submitted online or using the paper application form. Application instructions vary depending on student and application type, as well as institution attended.

Q: When do I apply for Transfer Credits? Answer

A: We strongly encourage applying for Transfer Credits, and following up with course outlines if required, as soon as you are eligible.

You are eligible to apply for Transfer Credits with an Offer of Admission if the institution you attended is available on the online Transfer Credit application. Applying online will allow you to view unofficial results, pending validation. Official results are confirmed after you accept your Offer of Admission, and after May 1 (if admitted for the upcoming Fall Term).

If your institution is not available online, you can apply for Transfer Credits after after you have accepted your Offer of Admission, and after May 1 (if admitted for the upcoming Fall Term).

Q: Why must I wait until May for my official Transfer Credit results? Answer

A:  Waiting until May 1 to confirm Transfer Credit results ensures all new students receive the same Transfer Credits. Each academic year Ryerson's curriculum changes and our equivalencies are updated prior to May 1 to reflect these changes.

Q: Can I determine my Transfer Credits before I confirm my Offer of Admission? Answer

A: Transfer Credits are only determined after you confirm your Offer of Admission. Prospective students and applicants can direct questions regarding Transfer Credit eligibility to Undergraduate Admissions.

Q: How is Advanced Standing eligibility determined? Answer

A: You must have completed a recognized diploma or at least 1 year of studies in a similar program to be eligible for an Advanced Standing Offer of Admission. Questions regarding Advanced Standing eligibility can be directed to Undergraduate Admissions.
