Ryerson-to-Ryerson Credits: Transferring between Ryerson programs

Transfer Credits are only granted for courses taken at other post-secondary institutions. You do not have to apply for Transfer Credits for courses taken at Ryerson University.

If you are switching between Ryerson programs should know:

  1. Transfer Credits granted toward a previous Ryerson program might require re-evaluation.  A re-evaluation is not required when you are transferring between full and part-time version of the same programs or you are changing majors.
  2. Previously completed Ryerson courses may be applied toward your new program requirements.

Information on each scenario is provided below:

Step One

Transfer Credits granted toward a previous Ryerson program

If Transfer Credits have been granted toward one Ryerson program and you switch to a different program, your Transfer Credits might require re-evaluation.

Re-evaluation is not necessary if you are switching between a full and part-time version of the same program or if you are changing majors within a common curriculum program.  For example, you are changing from BA Psychology to BA Sociology.  Next Steps offers information on how to apply your Transfer Credits toward your program curriculum.

Once you have accepted the Offer of Admission to your new program, contact the Transfer Credit Unit to initiate a review of your Transfer Credits if required.

The review of your Transfer Credits may result in adjustments to your Transfer Credit Report:

  • Transfer Credits that apply toward your new program will remain on your Transfer Credit Report.
  • Transfer Credits identified on your Offer as ineligible will be removed.
  • Transfer Credits that do not pertain to your new program, including PRE GEN Credits, will be removed from your Transfer Credit Report.
  • Applications that were previously denied will be removed from your Transfer Credit Report.

Applications removed from your Transfer Credit Report and any other unused courses may be eligible for Transfer Credits toward your new program.  Submit Transfer Credit applications for these courses.  The Transfer Credit Late Fee will be waived for students applying within two semesters of switching programs.

Step Two

Applying Ryerson courses toward a new program

Courses in your new Ryerson program completed while enrolled in your previous program will apply toward your new program.  This includes courses completed through The Chang School of Continuing Education where course codes are similar. For example CACC 100 is equivalent to ACC 100.

The Advisement Report will confirm which courses apply toward your new program.  The Non-Applicable Courses and Credits section of the Advisement Report will identify courses that do not apply toward your program.

You may be eligible to apply non-applicable courses toward your new program by:

  1. Substituting for similar courses
Courses completed in your previous program may be substituted for required courses in your new program.  A Course Substitution must be approved by the teaching department responsible for the course in your new program.
  2. Directing toward your Professional or Professionally-Related tables
Courses completed in your previous program may be directed toward your Professional or Professionally-Related tables.  A Course Directive must be approved by your new program department.

Once you have confirmed your admission it is advisable to attend your program orientation and meet your new program advisor.
