If Transfer Credits are granted on your Offer, you do not need to apply for these courses; they will be added to your Transfer Credit Report before the start of your first term.

Degree or diploma level courses from accredited academic institutions can be transferred however certificate courses are not eligible.

You may use Transfer Credits to fulfill up to 50% of your program graduation requirements.  Visit Next Steps to learn how your Transfer Credits apply towards your graduation requirements.

Determining Ryerson Equivalencies

When applying for Transfer Credits you do not have to specify equivalent Ryerson courses.

Compare your previous courses to your Ryerson program's curriculum to identify obvious similarities to determine relevant applications.  If you are uncertain your previous courses apply, we recommend you apply so they can be evaluated.

Transfer Credit equivalencies are determined by Ryerson faculty who are specialists in their field.  Detailed courses outlines assist evaluators in identifying equivalencies. Faculty and the Transfer Credit Unit adhere to the Transfer Credit Policy when processing all applications and equivalences.

Granted Transfer Credits may belong to 1 of 3 curriculum categories:

Step One Required

Required Courses are specific courses that must be completed to meet your Ryerson program's graduation requirements.

Every effort is made to grant Required Courses as Transfer Credits.  To be eligible your previous courses must be equivalent in level and content to specific Ryerson courses.

Step Two Liberal Studies

Typically arts and language courses are considered for Liberal Studies Transfer Credits.  Liberal Studies courses enhance your capacity to understand the social and cultural environments in which you will be and are functioning in as professionals and as educated citizens.

Liberal Studies are offered in 2 levels:

  • Lower Level (LL) or Table A courses - normally taken during your first 2 years at Ryerson
  • Upper Level (UL) or Table B courses - normally taken during your last 2 years at Ryerson

Occasionally generic Transfer Credits may be granted when previous courses meet the Liberal Studies requirements but topics covered do not match a specific Ryerson Liberal Studies Credit.  Visit Next Steps for information on generic Liberal Studies Transfer Credits.

Detailed Liberal Studies information is available from the Faculty of Arts.

Liberal Studies Transfer Credit Requirements

To establish Liberal Studies equivalencies the course outline must include detailed information on assignments and essays, including word count and percentage of course grade.  Journal entries and lab exercises are not considered to fulfill Liberal Studies writing requirements.
