Dr. Dunlop holds a Doctorate in Higher Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.  Starting his career as a Child and Youth Care Worker in the field of children’s mental health, he has held over the years various professional affiliations, worked extensively on a number of community development projects and served as a board member and executive member of numerous boards of non-profit organizations.  He has also served as a program consultant for a number of community based organizations.  His vast experience includes teaching, program/curriculum development and management in tertiary education across universities, community colleges and polytechnics/institutes of technology. 

Dr. Dunlop’s areas of professional/research interest include the development of partnership models for delivery of services to Indigenous Peoples (with a special emphasis on urban Aboriginal youth); opening educational pathways for health and social services practitioners; applying models for client empowerment in case planning and management, multidisciplinary/collaborative practice, leadership development and organizational and strategic planning in health, social services and education and training related organizations.  As part of his experience as an educator, Dr. Dunlop has had extensive involvement over the years with different formats for distance and open learning as a vehicle for enhancing educational and  professional development opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels for campus based learners as well as distance learners and practitioners in the workplace.

Dr. Dunlop comes to Ryerson from a senior executive position with Intuto NZ, one of New Zealand’s leading e-learning support companies.  Prior to that, he served for eight years as Executive Dean, Faculty of Health, Arts & Social Sciences at Waikato Institute of Technology in Hamilton, New Zealand.
