Prospective Students

Child and Youth Care has its roots in psychology, sociology, medicine, social work, and education. The core practice domains are professionalism; interpersonal communications; applied human development; interventions; therapeutic relationships; understanding families and systems and understanding the self as practitioner.

The field of Child and Youth Care is focused on research and practice which integrates developmental, preventative and therapeutic requirements into the life space of children, youth, families and communities. Practitioner's work to design and implement programs and planned environments to support optimal growth in today's world.

CYC Courses are available in day, evening and internet sections and full-time students will be required to take a combination of these three

Program Entry

The School of Child and Youth Care offers a 4-year B.A. (CYC) with 2 entry points:

Four-year Full-time Program
Students without a Child and Youth Care Diploma must apply to the 4-year full-time program. Many, but not all, of these students are applying directly from High School.

Direct Entry Program
Graduates of a Child and Youth Work Diploma-3 year from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology are eligible to apply for the Direct Entry (DENT) program. DENT is offered on eithe a full-time or a part-time basis (7 years to complete the degree).

Advanced Standing
Students with alternative post-secondary backgrounds (including 2 year Child and Youth Work Diplomas) must apply to 1st year and will be assessed for advanced standing. This means they may receive exemption from some required or elective courses.

CYC800 includes an on-site component as follows:
    Wed. June 6 (8:30-4:30)
