Instructional Design

Instructional Design (ID) in its most commonly used form is a systematic methodology for designing and developing educational material for any medium. Instructional design theories and models are informed by the theory of other disciplines such as Communications, Psychology, and Human-Computer Interaction. Instructional design is now considered an integral part of any development team for course material that uses any form of technology for delivery.

A general instructional design model includes the following phases: Analysis, Design, Development and Evaluation. These phases are interrelated and often happen concurrently. Many ID models are represented as a cycle:

Analysis | Design | Development | Evaluation
