Fourth-year field placement: part-time program

Course: CCLD 464 Senior Internship

Your fourth year senior internship is an opportunity to take your knowledge, skills, and experiences to a new level. To help you lay the groundwork for success in employment or graduate studies, you will complete either:

Your fourth-year field education placement is 25 days.  

Find out more about the geographical boundaries of your senior internship and about potential internship sites. Note: the prerequisite for this course is CCLD 363.

*The option to complete a placement outside of the province or country should be the final course before graduation.

Evaluation

You will be evaluated by your field educator at the midterm and at the end of your placement. You will also self-evaluate your own performance at the midterm and at the end of your placement. All evaluations are completed electronically.

Check out the sample field evaluation forms below:

  • sample Evaluation Form #1: for sites where students have daily interaction with children and conduct programming.
 For example: child care centres, early primary classrooms and family support programs.
  • sample Evaluation Form #2: for sites where students have little to no interaction with children, or interact with different children or families each day.
 For example: research and advocacy, child life, resource consultant child care management.

You will have access to the evaluation system once your placement begins.

Course documents

To participate in this course, you must complete four course documents, listed below, and follow this protocol:

  • complete them by hand (not digitally)

  • print them on white letter-sized paper

  • bring them to your first day at your placement


Course forms

Non-academic documentation

To participate in this placement course, you must obtain the following forms:

  • Vulnerable Sector Screening form from the police service in the municipality where you permanently reside. If you live permanently in the city of Toronto, applications are picked up from the ECS office. If your permanent residence is outside of Toronto, contact your local police service to determine the application process. Must be processed within 6 months of the placement start date.
  • A TB test form completed by your doctor. Must be processed within six months of your placement start date.

Submit these forms either electronically to the field placement coordinator (Martha Anapliotis at martha.anapliotis@ryerson.ca) or in person to the ECS office (Room KHS-354, Kerr Hall South) by the due date for your semester – see the field education schedule below for details.

How long are my documents valid?
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) form: A new VSS is required for each placement course.
  • TB Test  form: A new TB test required for each placement course.
  • Certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C: Two to three years, depending on certifying agency.
  • Ontario Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training in 4 Steps: Valid for duration of ECS program.
Field education schedule

You must attend an information meeting for the semester for which you plan to take your field education course. Meetings take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room KHS-363, Kerr Hall South.

Fall 2017 mandatory meeting: Thursday, June 22, 2017

Winter 2018 mandatory meeting: Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017

Spring 2017 mandatory meeting: Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017

Summer 2017 mandatory meeting: Thursday, April 27, 2017

*Note: Fall and Winter semesters include a Study Week, during which you will not attend placement.

  • Block: Sept. 25, 2017 to Nov. 3, 2017
  • 3 days per week: week of Sept. 25, 2017 to week of Nov. 27, 2017

Winter 2018

  • Block: Jan. 15, 2018 to Feb. 23, 2018
  • 3 days per week: week of Jan. 15, 2018 to week of March 19, 2018
