Program Orientation
First Year Students

You must bring the following to your Orientation Session:


Passport icon2 passport photos which will be placed in your Field Education and Academic Files

Passport iconPlease print your name and Ryerson student ID # on the back of each photograph

 

We specifically request passport photos for consistency of size and ease of recognition as your Field Education Coordinator and Student Affairs Coordinator get to know you. 

We will NOT accept snapshots, photos taken at kiosks in the mall, high school wallet size graduation photos or photocopies of your actual passport.

During the orientation session you will:

Meet the Director, Faculty, Placement Coordinator and Staff who will give you a general overview and answer any questions you might have; this is the session that will provide important information about School expectations.

  • All students admitted into first year are required to write a mandatory Writing Skills Test (WST).  The WST is conducted annually during Orientation Week before the beginning of the first semester. Students who pass the WST, by achieving a grade of 'B+' or higher, may enroll in their chosen Liberal Studies courses.  Those students who do not pass the WST will be required to enroll in one or two of the following courses, as indicated by the WST assessment, for their lower liberal studies: LNG 121, LNG 111, LNG 112 and LNG 113.
  • Learn about the field practice component of the program.
  • Receive information on obtaining your Criminal Reference Check
  • Receive information on obtaining the form that your doctor will complete certifying your 2 stage TB test and the specific requirements for completion of the form.
  • Receive information on specific requirements for certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for Infants and Children.
  • Be advised on the University policy for obtaining a locker
  • Verify the spelling of your name for your Ryerson name badge
  • Meet many other students. The President of the ECS Course Union will address the group as well as provide a Tour to familiarize you with the location of the School Offices, the Essay/Assignment Drop Box, the Undergraduate Student Lounge, the ONE CARD office (where you will obtain your student ID card) and KHW 71 (the undergraduate student computer lab) and Student Fees/Cashier etc.
