A member of the English department since 1999, and of the Joint Graduate Programme in Communications and Culture since 2000, Dr. Monique Tschofen teaches courses on popular culture, visual culture, digital culture, Canadian literature, and the nature of narrative. Her research focuses on the relationship between literary and visual arts, especially cinema and painting, and on violence in representation. She is the editor of books on the Canadian Icelandic poet and novelist Kristjana Gunnars, and on the filmmaker Atom Egoyan. Her current research projects explore early Canadian torture narratives, as well as experimental cinema.
