Since 1992, Parchment has been the only literary journal devoted to contemporary Canadian Jewish writing. Our aim is provide a platform for writers to confront and celebrate Judaism and Yiddishkeit through prose, poetry, drama, and creative non-fiction. Parchment has published many award-winning writers of poetry and prose. In 1996-97, we were honoured to publish Gabriella Goliger’s “Maladies of the Inner Ear,” which won the Journey Prize.
From 1992 to 2009, Parchment was housed in the Israel and Golda Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies at York University in Toronto, Ontario. In 2010, the journal moved to the Department of English at Ryerson University in Toronto, the academic home of Editor Ruth Panofsky. We are currently at work on the 2010 publication of the journal, and anticipate that it will be published by the end of the year.
