The university experience is more than just classrooms. Enrich your learning and life by taking advantage of the extracurricular opportunities that university and the surrounding community have to offer. Find institutional support for achieving academic success at Ryerson.

Here are some ways to get started:

Student Experience in the English Department

Creative Writing : provides information on Creative Writing opportunities associated with the English Department.

English Student Union: promotes the diverse interests of the BA English students, encouraging the growth, excellence, and success of its members in and out of the lecture hall.

Experiential Opportunities: provides information on experiential learning opportunities offered by the English Department.

Discovery Grant: provides up to $500 in support of forthcoming scholarly, community and publishing projects.

 

Student Experience in the Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts Student Experience Centre provides students with enriched educational experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. These include information about and oportunities for getting involved on campus and in the community, Community-Engaged Learning and Teaching opportunities, Learning Abroad, Career Counselling and Development, and grants for Student Projects.

The Arts-initiated SocialVentures Zone supports students and alumni who want to discover their passions, develop their ideas for social change, and take their ideas to the next level by developing them into sustainable and viable initiatives. The SocialVentures Zone is one of a number of Zones at Ryerson in which students can become involved.
Student Experience Beyond Arts

Get Involved! Directory of the Student Guide: offers information on how to get involved with various clubs, events and student politics.

Ryerson International: provides information on study and work abroad opportunities.

Ryerson Student Union: provides information on the activities and programs of the Student Union, such as Student Union Groups, advocates and fights for student rights, builds community on campus through events and by supporting campus groups, and provide discount services to save you money.

Student Support Services

Career Counselling: The Faculty of Arts Career Counsellor, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts Student Experience Centre, works with students to overcome educational/career barriers, develop new career – relevant skills and provides career counselling.

Centre for Student Development and Counselling: provides free confidential counselling services in a professional and friendly environment.

Student Learning Support: provides information on a group of services and programs provided by the university to help students engage more effectively in their academic studies including: Academic Accommodation Support (formerly The Access Center); English Language Support; Graduate Student Support; Math Support; Study Skills and Transition Support; Test Centre; and Writing Support.

Study Abroad

Students in the BA English program have the opportunity to study abroad in the Winter Term of their third year at our partner universities in locations as diverse as France, Turkey, The Netherlands and Barbados. Students who study abroad pay the usual Ryerson tuition fees, but are responsible for their travel and accommodation the exchange university. Applications for study abroad opportunities are due in January of your second year.
