Positive Space Mission
Positive Space - Mission Statement
“To increase the visibility of and contribute to the development of positive, supportive people and spaces for LGBTT2SQQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Transsexual, 2-Spirited, Questioning, Queer, Intersex, Ally) students, staff and faculty at Ryerson."
Through education, respectful inclusion, ally support and resources, we hope in time that all people can feel more comfortable and confident in being themselves, recognizing and working to end all forms of homophobia, heterosexism and transphobia, and increasing their value of diversity.
We plan to:
Increase the number of knowledgeable and supportive allies who are willing to speak out about homophobia, heterosexism and transphobia and the impact on the well being of LGBTT2SQQIA students, staff and faculty
Support the LGBTT2SQQIA community at Ryerson by creating safe spaces in which they can express themselves without fear of discrimination and harassment because of who they are
Help those who have biases against the LGBTT2SQQIA community to “un-learn” these biases and help them to understand that it’s ok to be “Straight, Proud and Not Homophobic” in order to foster an inclusive community
Establish a committee that is pro-active, whose focus is to engage the Ryerson community in the elimination of homophobia and heterosexism, by providing spaces in which we can challenge myths and engage people to think about the consequences of homophobia on campus and beyond
