Alia Youssef, an Image Arts Photography Studies student here at FCAD was invited by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to attend Malala Yousafzai's Citizenship Ceremony on April 12, 2017. Alia is behind the amazing photoraphy series The Sisters Project, which is a portrait project humanizing, diversifying, and showcasing the individual narratives of Muslim women.
Below is a recount of Alia's amazing experience:
"Last week I got invited to be a part of Malala Yousafzai's citizenship ceremony and her address to the nation in the house of commons. I am thankful to the office of Justin Trudeau to have been awarded this opportunity. I saw first hand how The Sisters Project was able to spread to even the highest part of our government. Being a part of this historic moment and being able to see Malala is something I'll treasure forever. Malala is such an inspiration, I saw first hand how one of the bravest and most incredible people can still be so humble, funny, and down to earth. Malala is the embodiment of The Sisters Project as she shows how Muslim women are strong and powerful leaders. "
