Faculty of Communication & Design

Ryerson’s School of Fashion is recognized as one of the top undergraduate fashion schools worldwide. Offering academic study options in both fashion design and fashion communication, the School’s academically and artistically demanding program focuses on fashion as art, as a business and as an intellectual challenge.

The School also offers a Master of Arts in Fashion in conjunction with the Yeates School of Graduate Studies.

Fundamentals of the program are taught through a mixture of lecture, studio, and lab time – ensuring that hands-on learning remains at the core of the curriculum.  Partnerships with a wide range of Canadian and international companies such as Holt Renfrew, Danier, Abercrombie & Fitch and Toronto Fashion Week provide both a dynamic experiential learning environment and unique internship opportunities.

ZONE LEARNING / RESEARCH

For students eager to develop their business skills, the School’s Fashion Zone provides an entrepreneurial environment for business plan development and implementation. The School is also recognized for its innovative and avant-garde research linking fashion with areas such as diversity, music and health, and offers the only graduate level of study in fashion in Canada.

Graduates from the program join a list of notable alumni who are dominating the Canadian fashion industry and are rapidly gaining international recognition.  Among these are Erdem, Jeremy Laing, Comrags’ Joyce Gunhouse and Judy Cornish, Lucian Matis, Brian Bailey and Jessica Biffi.  Many alumni also land professional careers with such prestigious companies such as Hudson’s Bay, Elle Canada, McGregor and Flare magazine.
