Faculty of Communication & Design

Ryerson’s renowned School of Performance offers programs of undergraduate study in three specializations: Performance Acting, Performance Dance, and Performance Production.

Throughout their studies, students work with award-winning faculty in addition to many of Canada’s top artists and arts managers.  While students receive a classical foundation in the theatre arts during their studies, they are also introduced to elements of theatrical entrepreneurship during the final two years of their program. Working with both faculty and guest artists, students experience extensive workshop and studio training, individual coaching and mentorship and participate in full-scale theatrical productions – some of which are their own works.

The involvement of The School of Performance faculty in academic research, writing and creative community projects also provides a particularly vibrant learning opportunity for students in the program – with many students having opportunities to participate alongside faculty in both local and study-abroad experiences.

Among some of the School’s distinguished alumni are Eric McCormack (TV’s Will and Grace). Michael Healey (playwright, The Drawer Boy), Peter Hinton (Director, National Arts Centre, English), Simon Marsden (Head of Production, Royal Shakespeare Company), Camillia Koo (Governor General Award-winning designer), Steve Allerick Chan (Disney’s The Lion King), and Tonya Lee Williams (Young and the Restless).
