Associate Dean, SRC

Welcome to the SRC pages for the Faculty of Communication & Design. FCAD is home to an energetic and dynamic scholarly research and creative community (SRC). Faculty members are recipients of external and internal research grants, and prestigious awards such as Geminis, Emmys and the Governor General’s Award. FCAD SRC activity is diverse and often multidisciplinary and critically extends the boundaries of communication and design. Faculty members are actively involved in projects in such diverse areas as immersive worlds, digital and 3D cinema, audience studies, colour management, fashion technology, code politics, media or fashion history, information architecture, consumer behavior, experiential design, performances and performance studies, and global news flows. In addition to disseminating their research through books and academic journals, faculty members present their work on television, at conferences, in public exhibitions, and on the theatrical stage. Through such initiatives, FCAD has substantially increased its SRC profile, both nationally and internationally. In 2012-2013, FCAD faculty members earned more than a million dollars in external SRC funding and produced more than 500 knowledge outputs, including books, performances, designs, screen products, journal articles, and exhibits.

FCAD colleagues work in a wide spectrum of social sciences and humanities, technical, professional, and creative disciplines. The diversity of FCAD SRC activity is reflected in the research chairs, centres and labs, and studios housed in the Faculty.

The FCAD Dean’s Office also has numerous ongoing initiatives to support, enhance and promote our faculty members in their SRC activities, including internal funding opportunities, as well as public lectures and internal academic seminars to encourage scholarly discussion and exchange ideas. The Dean's Lecture Series, a popular series of public lectures inaugurated in 2006, has hosted such visionary, artistic, and public intellectuals as Bruce Mau (Winter ’07), Eleanor Wachtel (Fall ’07), Jason Reitman (Winter '08), Sarah Fulford (Fall '08), Peter C. Newman (Winter '10), Bob Rushby (Winter '11), and Douglas Coupland (Winter 2013).

FCAD’s Associate Dean for SRC is Dr. Charles H. Davis (ext. 7866). Please feel free to contact me about anything having to do with scholarly research or creative activities in the Faculty of Communication & Design.
