International Projects and Initiatives Spotlights
In November 2011 and April 2012, delegates from VIA University College in Denmark visited Ryerson and met with representatives from various schools within the FCS. The discussion involved a potential collaboration regarding research and mobility of student and faculty members under the framework of a MOU between the FCS and the Faculty of Health Sciences at VIA University College. Representatives of Denmark's largest university college have indicated an interest in visiting Ryerson again in fall 2012 to further discuss collaboration with the Schools of Early Childhood Studies and Social Work.In spring 2012, child and youth care faculty member Judy Finlay and director Ted Dunlop, along with First Nation delegates, visited New Zealand to meet with partners from the New Zealand Ministry of Education, two tribal university colleges and the Faculty of Education at the University of Auckland. Together, the groups explored the potential for collaborative research and community-based initiatives that will focus on the social determinants of health for Indigenous communities, as well as the provision of educational services that are culturally appropriate and will enhance the education performance of chldren and youth.
International Collaboration
Henry Parada and Susan Silver of Social Work and Mike Burke of Politics and Public Administration, in partnership with Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and the National Council for the Protection of Children, received approximately $245,000 from the Network of European Foundations: Children and Violence Challenge Evaluation Fund for their project Evaluation of Centres for the Integral Attention of Children and Local Community Organizations for Child Protection in the Dominican Republic.
Student International Projects and Initiatives
Alternative Spring Break Initiative Social Work student Anna Lundkvist was part of a team of Ryerson students that travelled to Dago, Kenya during summer 2013 as part of the Alternative Spring Break initiative. The program enables students to spend their reading week and summer break volunteering in developing countries. Vassos spent time in a village near Hanoi, volunteering in an orphanage. |
