Message from the Dean

Dear Friends,

The Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS) is committed to excellence in education, innovation and research. We deliver high-quality education that produces workforce-ready graduates and we carry out vital research that improves daily life.

FEAS is a dynamic faculty with close to 4,000 students enrolled in nine undergraduate programs, and nearly 900 students in 13 graduate programs. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in the accreditation of all eight of our engineering programs by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board, and the accreditation of our architecture program by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board. Our newest undergraduate program - biomedical engineering - received accreditation status in 2012, making it the first and only stand-alone accredited biomedical engineering program in English Canada. Accreditation is an external quality assurance peer review process based on national standards, and it is an achievement in which we all take great pride.

We are making exciting strides in scholarly, research and creative activities in all areas of engineering and architectural science. Our Faculty is home to seven Canada Research Chairs and a senior industrial research chair. We have built strong and sustainable partnerships with industry, hospitals, international research groups and the external community. All of these partnerships provide our students with a diverse and rich environment for experiential and innovative learning.

Our Faculty is committed to our students’ engagement with the world beyond academia and the borders of Canada. We have student mobility partnerships with leading universities worldwide, and we strongly encourage our students to participate in a variety of competitions. These opportunities help our students to develop strong communication, teamwork and leadership skills, contributing to a well-rounded education that makes our graduates leaders in their chosen fields.

As we move forward, FEAS remains committed to excellence in education, innovation and research. We will continue to develop new programs, establish and strengthen national and international partnerships, and improve the Ryerson student experience.
