FEAS Service Recognition Award

The Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS) Service Recognition Award recognizes outstanding service from a staff member in support of our Faculty's mission.

Two awards will be granted in each of the Fall and Winter academic semesters. In each semester, one award will be allocated to a technical staff member, and the other to an administrative staff member. The awards will be granted to staff members whose nomination packages best demonstrate outstanding performance in their service areas. The award includes a $500 monetary component to be made available to the award winner in the form of a professional development fund administered by the Dean’s Office.

Eligibility

The award is open to full-time and term staff who have been employed by Ryerson for a minimum of 12 months. Award nominees must not have been recipients of the award during the preceding four years. Selection committee members are not eligible to receive the award.

Criteria

Characteristics consistent with outstanding service include:

  1. Effective ability to facilitate the service function (e.g., good communication skills, highly organized, team player, strives to build bridges among individuals/groups to achieve service goals);

  2. Innovation in service provision (e.g., initiating more effective office practices, cost saving suggestions in lab/studio activities, suggestions for improved communication processes);
  3. Capacity as a role model for staff, faculty and students (e.g., has gone out of his/her way to help, has left a lasting, positive impression on individuals served); and
  4. A well-developed service orientation (e.g., works to resolve issues as they arise, maintains current knowledge about policies/procedures that are relevant to his/her role).

Nomination Process

Nominations must be submitted on the official form pdf and must be submitted by the second Monday of October and February, for the Fall and Winter competitions, respectively.

Nominations can be submitted by faculty members, staff, Chairs, supervisors or students, and must be approved by the nominee. Self-nominations are not accepted.

The nominator must include a letter describing how the nominee is outstanding in at least one of the criteria areas, and how the nominee demonstrates competence in the other three areas. Additional documentation, including letters of support, may also be provided.

Multiple nominations for the same candidate are not permitted for a single competition. If multiple nominators wish to submit a package for a single candidate, they may submit jointly. Unsuccessful candidates may be nominated again in subsequent competitions.
