Civil engineering students place second and third at CITE regional competition
Geomatics engineering PhD student Wai Yeung Yan earned second place at the Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers’ (CITE) regional student presentation competition held March 28 at Mohawk College.
Yan competed against students from the Hamilton, Southwestern Ontario and Toronto sections of CITE, and earned the prize in the graduate category for his presentation entitled, “Extraction Of 3D Road Alignments and Signs Using Remote Sensing and Computer Vision Techniques”. Yan’s research was supervised by Dr. Ahmed Shaker and Dr. Said Easa.
In the undergraduate category, Ryan Khan presented on behalf of his capstone project team (Ched Field, Manpreet Kalsi, David Liu, Anthony Lukes and Andrew Shiwnarain) and earned third place. The team project was entitled “Transportation Assessment Study: Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension” and was supervised by faculty advisor Dr. Said Easa and industry client Shadi Hagag.
Ryerson’s civil engineering students have dominated this competition since 2009. The first-place winners of the undergraduate category in 2009 and 2010 were supervised by Dr. Shaker and Dr. Easa, respectively.
