Engineering Expo a huge success
The first annual Engineering Expo for Prospective Students took place March 17-18 in the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre.
Hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Engineering Admissions and Recruitment, the Expo provided high school students with the opportunity to meet current engineering students and hear first-hand about their projects and experiences at Ryerson. The Expo also showcased exciting design projects and team competition entries.
More than 300 prospective students and their families attended the two-day event, which showcased the following exhibits: the brain-controlled, pneumatic full prosthetic arm developed by biomedical engineering students which took first place in the innovative design category at the Ontario Engineering Competition, the Troitsky Bridge Building Competition winner, the concrete toboggan which took third place in the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race, a race car designed by the Ryerson Formula SAE team, a remote-controlled, gas-driven aircraft designed by the Ryerson Aero Design Team, a concrete canoe designed by civil engineering students, a supermileage vehicle designed by mechanical engineering students, an aerial search unit, four-blade flying machine and handy mouse for the physically challenged designed by electrical engineering students, an oil sands recovery plant project details and samples designed by chemical engineering students, a smart car for intelligent transportation network designed by computer engineering students, a quad copter designed by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle team, and various informative display boards from Women in Engineering (WIE), industrial and biomedical engineering students, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Ryerson Institute for Aerospace Innovation and Design (RIADI) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB).
iPod nanos and custom-designed Ryerson Engineering water bottles were given away throughout the event.
