NSERC Chair in Design Engineering

Ingenious engineering design capability is a prime objective of all engineering disciplines, and as such an effective working knowledge of design and design methodologies is fundamental to all engineering programs. To promote the health and growth of industry and secure Canada’s competitive edge in the global marketplace, there is an absolute need to establish a long-term sustainable plan to educate the engineers of tomorrow with the knowledge of design concepts so as to be the enablers of innovation.

Ryerson's NSERC Chair in Design Engineering will provide renewed leadership with increased visibility and focus to further enhance and expand the engineering design component throughout all the engineering departments within the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Science.

Dr. Dimitri Androutsos, NSERC Chair in Design Engineering

Dr. Dimitri Androutsos

Dr. Dimitri Androutsos is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Program Director for the Electrical Engineering program. He brings to the Design Chair position a background of industrial design experience, teaching excellence and administrative experience in curriculum design and implementation. He has worked on numerous industrial projects ranging from image processing systems to wireless Voice-over-IP communication. In addition, Dr. Androutsos is also an outstanding undergraduate lecturer and teaches two fundamental undergraduate courses (ELE 532: Signals & Systems and ELE 404: Electronic Circuits), where he includes many aspects of design in his pedagogy and labs.
