Students who are not yet sure about which engineering discipline is of interest to them may opt to enroll in Undeclared Engineering. This entry option provides students with the opportunity to learn more about the various engineering disciplines before selecting a plan of study. The first semester's curriculum matches that of any of the other eight engineering programs.
Students are given the opportunity to review the different disciplines of engineering offered at Ryerson through the common engineering course, Introduction to Engineering. This course helps students to make an informed decision when selecting the engineering plan that is right for them.
Students in Undeclared Engineering must indicate, by December 1 in the year of admission, which of the eight engineering programs they intend to pursue.
In the first semester, all engineering students, including those in Undeclared Engineering, take the following courses:
CEN 100: Introduction to Engineering
CHY 102: General Chemistry
MTH 140: Calculus I
MTH 141: Linear Algebra
PCS 211: Physics: Mechanics
One Liberal Studies elective course
In the second semester, students take the required courses listed for all programs (from Group 1), and the courses listed for the program they have chosen (from Group 2).
Group 1: Required Courses for All Programs
CPS 125: Digital Computation and Programming
ECN 801: Principles of Engineering Economics
MTH 240: Calculus II
PCS 125: Physics: Waves and Fields
Group 2: Program-Specific Required Courses
Aerospace Engineering
AER 222: Engineering Design and Graphical Communication
MTL 200: Materials Science Fundamentals
Biomedical Engineering
BME 100: Introduction to Biomedical Engineering
EES 512: Electric Circuits
Chemical Engineering Co-op
CHE 200: Chemical Engineering Fundamentals
CHY 211: General Chemistry Laboratory
Civil Engineering
CVL 207: Graphics
MTL 200: Materials Science Fundamentals
Computer and Electrical Engineering
ELE 202: Electric Circuit Analysis
