Fashion (MA)

About the Program

Long a leader in fashion education, Ryerson University launched Canada's first Master of Arts (MA) degree in Fashion in the fall of 2010.  The two year (5 semester) inter-disciplinary research and studio program offers both core theoretical and practical courses including an internship program.  The Master of Arts in Fashion will provide students with the opportunity to achieve a solid understanding of design theory, issues in ethics and sustainable design, globalization, cutting edge technology and entrepreneurship.  Working closely with faculty and experts in the field, students will have an opportunity to develop advanced research skills and challenge their assumptions about theoretical issues related to the design process, as well as the history and sociology of the body and dress.  The School of Fashion MA studio has specialized facilities, including state of the art sewing equipment, a three dimensional body scanner, and industry software to enhance advanced computer aided design, graphic design, and new media development.
