Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

2013-2014 Doctoral Competition

The Vanier CGS program aims to attract and retain world-class doctoral students by supporting those who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health. Canadian and international students are eligible to be nominated for a Vanier CGS. Once in full operation, this program will support 500 international and Canadian doctoral students with highly prestigious scholarships. The Vanier CGS supports doctoral students with $50,000 per year for up to three years.

The scholarships are administered by Canada’s three federal granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).  Every university has a quota of nominations that they can submit for the 2012-2013 competition, there are no CIHR scholarship nominations available.  Students may apply for SSHRC and NSERC Vanier scholarships only.

Interested students must complete and submit their electronic application package through the ResearchNet online application and nomination e-approval system no later than

Friday, October 12, 2012

It is also required on this date, that students submit a complete hard copy of the application (including transcripts) to the Yeates School of Graduate Studies, 1 Dundas Street West, 11th Floor, Room 1109.   Once the applications have been verified, the internal Vanier committees (SHHRC, NSERC and CIHR) will select the nominations to go forward to the councils.

The council will notify nominees and Ryerson of the results of the competition some time in April.
