SGS Council Mandate
The Council of the School of Graduate Studies
- The Graduate Council shall remain no greater than twenty members and consist
of the following:
- Dean of Graduate Studies as Chair and ex-officio;
- One representative from each Faculty who must be SGS members;
- Three additional SGS members;
- Seven graduate program directors;
- Two graduate students; and,
- The Vice-Chair (a Faculty member to be elected by and from the Council).
Term of membership will be two years, renewable
for one additional term.
- The Council shall:
- Facilitate the review and evaluation of proposed graduate programs;
- Approve graduate programs and degree designations for final consideration
of Academic Council and the Board of Governors;
- Approve the rules of membership and review applications for membership;
- Approve policy relevant to graduate programs and students including
the following:
- funding for graduate students;
- admission and graduation requirements; and,
- application, tuition and other fees;
- Establish sub-committees (ad hoc and standing) as required to address
specific areas of governance and policy;
- Oversee the philosophy, mission and goals of graduate programs at Ryerson;
and,
- Advocate on behalf of graduate programs.
