Governance

SGS Council Mandate

The Council of the School of Graduate Studies

  1. The Graduate Council shall remain no greater than twenty members and consist of the following:
    1. Dean of Graduate Studies as Chair and ex-officio;
    2. One representative from each Faculty who must be SGS members;
    3. Three additional SGS members;
    4. Seven graduate program directors;
    5. Two graduate students; and,
    6. The Vice-Chair (a Faculty member to be elected by and from the Council).

    Term of membership will be two years, renewable for one additional term.

  2. The Council shall:
    1. Facilitate the review and evaluation of proposed graduate programs;
    2. Approve graduate programs and degree designations for final consideration of Academic Council and the Board of Governors;
    3. Approve the rules of membership and review applications for membership;
    4. Approve policy relevant to graduate programs and students including the following:
    5. funding for graduate students;
    6. admission and graduation requirements; and,
    7. application, tuition and other fees;
    8. Establish sub-committees (ad hoc and standing) as required to address specific areas of governance and policy;
    9. Oversee the philosophy, mission and goals of graduate programs at Ryerson; and,
    10. Advocate on behalf of graduate programs.
