Admissions

Minimum Academic Requirement

  • Completion of an approved four-year undergraduate university program in English (including Arts and Contemporary Studies with an English Option, and Comparative Literature) or an equivalent program.
  • Achieved a minimum of 3.00/4.33 (B) in the final half of the program.

Program Specific Documents

In addition to the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School at Ryerson, the Masters of Arts Program in Literatures of Modernity requires the following materials:

Statement of interest

You are required to submit a brief written statement of approximately 500 words outlining your research interests and reasons for pursuing Graduate study in Literatures of Modernity. Your statement should indicate whether you plan on pursuing the Major Research Paper option or Practicum option and how your previous studies and experience have prepared you for the MA program as well as your career objectives and how the MA program relates to them.                                                                               

Letters of Recommendation

A minimim of two Letters of Recommendation are required for each application.

Reference letters are a key component of your application package and close attention must be paid prior to selecting a referee.  It is also your responsibility to contact the referee before filling out the online application form to confirm availability. Here is a link to some helpful resources How to ask for a reference letter.

Your referees should have the ability to comment on your past achievements and your potential as a graduate student.  In most cases, the referees will be former professors or research supervisors familiar with your abilities.

Sample of Work

Your sample of work should be a writing sample of 10-15 pages that best represents your ability to write for an academic audience.
