1. complete five courses
2. achieve a grade of at least B− in each of the five courses
3. regularly attend and participate in seminars
4. complete a thesis in his/her chosen area of interest
5. present a graduate seminar on the thesis

The fifth required course could be taken during the second year of studies.
Each student conducts thesis research by working closely with a thesis supervisor(s). The supervisor is a member of the Mathematics graduate faculty who provides academic guidance in the area in which the student and faculty members are interested. In exceptional cases, students may be allowed a one-year extension to complete all requirements for the degree. However, such students will not be eligible for financial support during the extension year.
