Policy Studies (PhD)

Admissions


Applicants must meet normal requirements for admission to the Ryerson School of Graduate Studies. 

Admission to the PhD program requires:

  • demonstrated capacity to undertake advanced study in policy-related fields
  • completion of Masters level degree in a social sciences discipline (or equivalent), with a high level of accomplishment (normally a minimum of "B+" average or equivalent in the last two years of study)
  • demonstrated competence in the English language (a test of English language proficiency will be required for those whose previous language of instruction was not English)
  • 3 letters of recommendation supporting the applicant’s academic abilities (at least two should be from academic referees; professional references should highlight relevant experience related to research and intellectual potential)
  • 2-3 page statement of research interests (outlining research interests/topic; explanation of how prior studies/interests have led to research interests; discussion of significance of topic to selected field; experience with research and methodology; and why an interdisciplinary program in policy studies)
  • Sample of writing (maximum 30 pages)
  • official transcripts for all relevant post secondary education (for example BA and MA)
