I am extremely proud of serving as the Ryerson Director of the Joint with York Graduate Program in Communication and Culture. I invite you to join us and discover the excitement of studying downtown in Toronto, with the privilege of having access to resources and expertise at York University, too.

Our Program is a unique partnership with two universities combining expertise and opportunities for advanced study related to media and cultural technologies in practice and theory, as well as communication politics and policy.

Distinguished faculty from both Ryerson and York universities collectively provide the program a breadth of perspectives and professional experience in communications, social sciences, humanities, media and fine arts, and other disciplines across both campuses.

Ryerson’s campus downtown in Toronto contributes its record of applied education, and its extensive industry links in radio and television, film and photography, multimedia and new media information technologies.

York’s campus in North York contributes its traditions of innovative, interdisciplinary graduate education, which has routinely broken new ground for learning through theory-building, research and professional training.

We offer an innovative Two-Year MA program, full-time or part-time, which allows students to enter from a wide diversity of academic backgrounds and with professional experience. Our MA program options are unique in Ontario for combining academic and professional work. We promote the integration of theory-building, media practice, and policy implications through independent research projects in communication and culture that specialize in one of those approaches.

Our full-time PhD program reflects how advanced research in communication requires a thorough grounding in theory and method, and a grasp of the practices, processes and technologies of contemporary mediated cultures. Research opportunities are supported by a large gathering of faculty from across Ryerson and York, who bring a breadth of perspectives, experience and opportunities.

We offer and facilitate major scholarship funding, research training opportunities, academic teaching training opportunities, and (for MA students) credit for field placement connections.
