Biography

Arne Kislenko is an Associate Professor of History at Ryerson University and an Adjunct Professor in the International Relations Program at the Munk Centre for International Studies at the University of Toronto. He teaches 19th and 20th century international relations, including courses on the history of espionage, the two world wars, the Cold War, American and comparative foreign policy, and globalization. He has received numerous awards for his teaching including being named “Best Lecturer” by TV Ontario viewers following the inaugural “Big Ideas” series in 2005. He also won the Ontario government’s inaugural Leadership in Faculty Teaching Awards (LIFT) in September 2007 and Ryerson’s first ever President’s Award for Teaching in December 2007. Between 1989 and 2001 he served as Senior Immigration Officer with Canada Immigration at Lester B. Pearson Airport, dealing with many high profile and national security cases. He appears regularly in the media commenting on current affairs, including region U.S. foreign policy, national security, terrorism, immigration, and modern diplomatic history.


 

Research Interest

Arne’s research interests include current and 20th century international relations, region US foreign policy, modern diplomatic history, contemporary intelligence/national security issues, immigration and border control, and modern Southeast Asia.
