Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) licenses Ontario's engineers, sets standards and regulates
engineering practice in Ontario. The Professional Engineers Act sets the mandate for PEO,
which includes the protection of public interest where engineering is concerned. The requirements
for licensing by the PEO include a Bachelor's degree in engineering from a Canadian University program
accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board of the Canadian Council of Professional
Engineers, or equivalent academic qualifications. In addition, Ontario law stipulates that the
individual must have four years of engineering work experience before obtaining a professional
engineering license.
