Funding Your Master of Nursing Education

There are a number of funding opportunities available to students enrolled in the Master of Nursing program.

Students are encouraged to apply for educational grants, bursaries and scholarships available to nurses in Ontario. Please refer to the list below of Nursing Organizations and Associations and their respective links:

Internal Funding for Full-time Master of Nursing Students

  • Ryerson Graduate Scholarship (RGS)
The RGS is a $7000 scholarship for academic excellence provided by the University on a competitive basis to candidates applying to the full-time MN program with a GPA of A- or higher in the last two years of their undergraduate program. Returning full-time students are also eligible for consideration on a competitive basis.
  • Ryerson Graduate Award (RGS)
The RGA is a $6500 merit award provided by the Master of Nursing program. The amount of the RGA is variable, but less than the amount of a RGS. The RGA is often awarded by the program to enhance the level of funding for students who have won external awards. Returning full-time students are also eligible for consideration on a competitive basis.

For more information and Guidelines for Ryerson Graduate Scholarships and Ryerson Graduate Awards, please refer to the Funding section of the Yeates School of Graduate Studies website.
  • Graduate (Teaching) Assistants
GA Refers to “an appointment of a Ryerson Graduate Student, enrolled on a full-time basis, who is employed to assist with teaching or related duties. Such students shall be Ryerson students, enrolled in the University’s Master’s or PhD programs.” Employment opportunities may be offered by departments or schools. Full-time graduate students can be employed for a maximum of 10 hours per week. The rate of pay can be found on the Human Resources website in the CUPE Local 3904 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Students may be offered GA positions by their program, and/or the positions will be posted on the HR website. Please go to GA Opportunities for current postings. Terms of employment of graduate students will be consistent with the collective agreements between Ryerson and its employee groups.

Provincial Award Opportunities

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS)

OGS awards are merit-based scholarships available to full-time students in the Master of Nursing program. The OGS program is funded by the Province of Ontario and by Ontario universities. The Province of Ontario contributes two-thirds of the value of the award while Ryerson University provides one-third. The value of the award is $15,000.00 per year.

  • Incoming Students
All eligible incoming full-time students will automatically be considered for the OGS. There is no separate application form for OGS for incoming students. Applicants that have achieved an “A-“ average or above in the last two years of their undergraduate program are eligible for consideration.
  • Returning Students
All eligible returning full-time students must submit a simplified application form if they wish to be considered for an OGS. The application will be posted shortly.
Graduate programs will be responsible for the adjudication of applications and will forward their recommendations to the Yeates School of Graduate Studies for final assessment.
Note: International applicants will follow the same application process. As there are only a small number of international OGS awards available, the adjudication of international applicants will be made by the YSGS Scholarship and Awards Committee.

Please go to www.ryerson.ca/graduate/funding/fundingogs.html for a complete overview of the OGS eligibility criteria and application deadline.
