Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (PHCNP) Certificate
Admission Requirements - PHCNP Certificate
For admission consideration, candidates applying to the PHCNP Certificate program must have a Baccalaureate in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent from a program accredited by CASN or approved by the appropriate provincial body. Note that meeting minimal requirements does not ensure admission.
- Applicants must have obtained a minimum overall B standing in their undergraduate degree and, in addition, at least a B+ in the final two years or last twenty graded courses. It is expected that the candidate will have obtained good academic standing in non-nursing as well as nursing subjects.
- Strong preference will be given to Registered Nurses that are Master’s prepared and whose current experience in any setting has been continuous, demonstrates critical thinking and potential to work with clients in a collaborative, holistic, family-centered practice, or advancement of evident-based practice.
- Applicants must have the equivalent of two years full-time nursing practice (3640 hours) within the past five years by September 1.
- Applicants are required to submit the following supporting documents: official transcripts; curriculum vitae, two confidential letters of reference; and a statement of interest.
- Applicants are also required to submit a Verification of Employment Hours form, a confidential nursing practice letter of reference, and a written profile that describes your motivation for wanting to become a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Health Care.
- English Facility Score Requirements for applicants who have a degree from a university in which English is not the language of instruction or examination. Please refer to the School of Graduate Studies Website: http://www.ryerson.ca/graduate/admissions/. All English Facility Score Requirements must be met at the time of application. If you do not meet the minimum requirements outlined in the above link, please make arrangements to write another English proficiency test and submit your results not later than the application deadline.
- Applicants who submit all required and supporting documentation by the posted first-consideration deadline date will be given priority. Completed applications received after the first-consideration deadline we be considered until the program is full or formally closes. Note that incomplete files will not be reviewed for admission consideration.
- Successful applicants will be required to provide proof of current registration or proof of registration eligibility with the College of Nurses of Ontario prior to starting the program.
