2) How do I find out my results?

We encourage our patients to take interest and be involved in their health care.  An important part of that is for our patients to learn about their test results.  This can be done in several ways.

a) Calling the clinic:

You can call the clinic to confirm that the results have been received by the clinic and are normal.  If there are any issues arising from the test result that warrants a discussion then the administrative staff will ask you to book a follow up appointment.  The turnaround time for results is as follows:

Type of test

Approximate turnaround time

General blood work (eg. tests for anemia, thyroid, diabetes, cholesterol, kidney and liver function)

1 week

Toronto Public Health (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella immunity, Hepatitis, HIV, syphilis, HSV, H.Pylori)

2 weeks

Pap

up to 4 weeks

Chlamydia and gonorrhea

1 week

Throat culture for strep

1 week

Vaginal culture for yeast and bacteria vaginosis

1 week

Urine culture

1 week

X-ray and ultrasound in community imaging centre

1 week

ECG

1-2 weeks

b) Booking an appointment:

This is the best way to follow up with your test results and have it explained by your doctor.  A follow up visit allows your doctor to reassess your medical condition and decide if further testing is needed.

c) Online through the medical laboratory patient portal:

Some medical laboratories will offer a secure web based service whereby you may log on and view your results.
