Dr. Catherine Ellis’ research focuses on post-1945 Britain, particularly the development of the Labour Party and the integration of teenagers and young people into British political life from the 1940s to the 1970s. Her work has appeared in Contemporary British History, Journal of Political Ideologies, Twentieth-Century British History, Journal of British Studies and Journal of Liberal History. She also has contributed to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and several edited volumes. Dr. Ellis has presented her research to diverse audiences on subjects ranging from postwar British literature to youth, politics, and punk music. She currently is writing a book that examines political discourses on youth in Britain after the Second World War. Prior to joining the Department of History, Dr. Ellis held a Killam post-doctoral fellowship and taught at the University of Victoria and the University of Lethbridge. Her teaching includes courses on modern Britain, the Third Reich, modern and early modern Europe, and European intellectual history. Dr. Ellis also is a member of the graduate faculty.
