Manages and ensures good governance of a wide range of group benefit and retirement plans, including health & dental plans, life insurance, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, short & long term disability, pension plans and RRSPs. Collects/participates in surveys and conducts research to keep up to date on issues and trends. Coordinates with third party providers, e.g. insurance carriers, and provides assistance, information and advice to managers, employees and retirees.

As the primary strategic HR partners for faculties and departments, HR Management Consultants and HR Consulting Advisors provide consultation and advice on a wide range of issues, often collaboratively with other HR staff. This includes but is not limited to official interpretation and application of collective agreements and university HR policies; terms and conditions of employment; performance and attendance management; recruitment; restructuring; workplace investigation; grievance resolution; arbitration, negotiation and mediation; monitoring legislation, case law and policy changes; labour relations surveys.

Provides strategic advice and operational assistance with recruitment for MAC, OPSEU and CUPE 233 positions in order to attract, hire and retain the best qualified candidates using equitable, proactive hiring practices. Oversees and provides consulting services for Ryerson's Employment Equity program, including Aboriginal services, accommodation, outreach, workforce analysis and initiatives to create a more welcoming and inclusive workplace, and increase awareness of issues for the designated groups (Persons with Disabilities, Women, Aboriginal People and Visible Minorities); prepares annual Employment Equity reports.

Ensures the internal equity and external competitiveness of Ryerson's total compensation package. Provides advice and assistance on a wide range of position, salary, and recognition and awards. This includes consulting on and administering job evaluation plans, job descriptions and questionnaires; providing consultation and support to implement restructuring; conducting salary surveys and compensation research; salary, recognition and rewards research, analysis and recommendations; interpreting and applying compensation policies; participating in grievance resolution; administering Pay Equity plans.

Provides a variety of services to faculties/departments and employees, including employee records management; information and assistance with leave administration (pregnancy, sabbatical, etc.); implementing legislative, policy and collective agreement provisions related to salaries, benefits, seniority, attendance, taxation, etc; payroll processing; time and absence processing; responding to inquiries concerning pay; issuing confirmation of employment letters and records of employment (ROEs).
