SIN requirements for Student/Employees with a Work/Study Permit

Effective April 3, 2004, individuals who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents and who are working in Canada under the authority of a work or study permit, require a social insurance number (SIN) and card, that includes an expiry date. If it has no expiry date, you need to apply for a new social insurance card prior to April 3, 2004. This applies to all individuals whose SIN begins with the number "9".
