Please see below for important information regarding Ryerson's first ever employee engagement survey, the People First Survey.

  1. Have you seen the communication sent March 8, 2012 from "Julia Hanigsberg & Larissa Allen", introducing the survey and explaining its importance? If not, you can read it at www.ryerson.ca/peoplefirstmemo.

  2. You should by now have received an email invitation from ryepeoplefirstsurvey@ipsos-research.com to your Ryerson email account. If you have not received your invitation, please check your junk/spam folder. CCS and Ipsos tested Ryerson's filters in advance, however individual settings can sometimes override this. If you still do not have it, contact Tamar Myers at tsmyers@ryerson.ca or (416) 979-5000 ext 7974.

  3. If you do not have an active Ryerson email account, check for your paper invitation where you get mail at Ryerson.

  4. Keep the invitation handy. The email contains the unique web link for your survey. The paper invitation contains your login information. Please do not give it to anyone else – everyone has their own unique web link or login.

  5. Today, March 20, 2012, you will receive a reminder invite from Ipsos from ryepeoplefirstsurvey@ipsos-research.com. This contains the same information as your original invitation and a reminder to participate before the deadline, April 10, 2012, at 5pm.

  6. Book time in your calendar to complete your survey. It will only take approximately 20 minutes.

  7. You do not have to complete the entire survey in one sitting. Your responses are automatically saved. When you return to the survey by clicking on your direct link, or logging in with the password provided (if you received a paper invite), it will take you back to where you left off.

However, you can not modify previous answers (please do not attempt to use the Back button on your browser). If you skip the open-ended questions, you will not be able to return to them at a later time. Please be sure of your response before you click Next.

The survey is submitted after you complete the demographic questions. The screen will display the message "This is the end of the survey. Thank you, your survey has now been submitted.

  8. We have received feedback that the survey website has asked some participants for a password, although none is provided in their email invitation. Ipsos informs us there are two circumstances when it may incorrectly prompt you for a password:

Please do not create a bookmark to the survey as you will experience technical difficulties. If you step away from the computer and your survey times out, do not hit Refresh. Please close your browser, refer back to your invitation and click on the direct link (or enter login information on the paper invite). It will take you back to where you left off.
    1. if you bookmarked your link to the survey and are attempting to access it through the bookmark or
    2. if you click on "Refresh" while in the survey.

  9. Concerned about privacy? Ipsos Reid has administered employee surveys for many universities. Ipsos' reputation is built on the privacy and security of the data they collect, and they have provided us with ample information to support that they have appropriate measures in place to protect Ryerson employees' data. Further, to protect your privacy, the connection between your name and your responses is severed once your survey is completed.

Our contract with Ipsos was reviewed by Ryerson's General Counsel who ensured the Ryerson Privacy Protection Schedule was included and agreed upon. In addition, every element of the survey, including the Ipsos Privacy Policy, was reviewed by the Ryerson Research Ethics Board who approved the project.

To view the Ipsos privacy policy, visit http://www.ipsos-na.com/privacy

  10. We provided to Ipsos only enough information about you for them to administer the survey. As a result, they do not have information to determine the salutation appropriate to each individual (Mr., Mrs., Miss, Dr., Prof., etc). Ryerson has instructed Ipsos to address participants by their first name.

  11. Experiencing technical issues with your survey? Contact Ipsos Reid at (416) 572-4447 or email surveyhelp@ipsos-research.com. Please quote "Ryerson Survey" in the subject line or when calling.

If you contact Ipsos for technical assistance, they may ask you to provide or confirm some basic information in order to look into the problem. The only information they need is your name and email address, both of which are already in the public domain. In some cases they may ask you to forward your invitation back to them to investigate the issue. We assure you that this is in no way an attempt to phish for any information that can be used to invade your privacy.

  12. If you have questions, check out the FAQs at www.ryerson.ca/peoplefirstsurvey or contact Tamar at tsmyers@ryerson.ca or (416) 979-5000 ext 7974.
