Fill Short-Term Positions Using the New Candidate Pool!

You may occasionally need to hire an employee to fill a short-term need, such as covering short-term absences or to assist with special projects.

Human Resources is introducing a solution to better support you in filling short-term (less than four months) positions! The HR Recruitment & Retention team has been working to build a pool of readily available, pre-screened candidates to fill positions for various short-term administrative and customer services roles.

Contact Lindsay Wiener, Recruitment and Retention Assistant at (416) 979-5000 ext. 4717 or l2wiener@ryerson.ca and he will provide you a sample of resumes to consider.

Why Hire From This Pool?

Hiring from this qualified pool of candidates takes less time than sourcing resumes on your own. These candidates are available and ready to work immediately, and all resumes expire after a period of six months to keep the candidate pool up to date.

By using this pool instead of an employment agency, you’ll be able to save the additional margin added by these agencies for use of their services. Normally the hourly rate for an employee hired through an agency is approximately $25-$30 per hour; this number includes at least 30-35% on top of the hourly rate for the service of the employee.

You’re also helping candidates build experience working within Ryerson and creating a higher number of diverse applicants for future positions.

How Are Candidates Screened?

The pre-screening process includes testing for Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, basic administrative skills, as well as a mini interview. The candidates included in the pool are those who have passed or exceed the current testing benchmark score of 70 per cent on all four computer tests.

If you know of any candidates interested in short-term temporary positions, please direct them to the Short-Term Candidate Pool link on the Ryerson Careers and Jobs page.
