When You Arrive

Crossing the Canadian Border

When you arrive in Canada, you will be met by an officer from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) at a point of entry, such as an airport. The CBSA is responsible for border and point of entry activities in Canada. Click here for information about the documents you need to bring with you to enter Canada, and what to expect at the Canadian border.

Cultural Adaptation

Studying and living in a foreign country can be an extremely enriching and challenging experience. It is natural to feel both highs and lows as you adjust to a different culture and environment. Finding a balance between things that are new and things that are familiar can help ground you. One key to benefiting from this overseas experience is getting involved. Consider joining a student group on campus or maybe get involved in intramural or varsity sports.

Also take full advantage of the networks and supports in place including:

Cult Awareness

Cult-like groups use psychological methods to recruit members. Given the right circumstances, sophisticated mind control techniques will work on anyone, even those who think they are immune. Association with these groups can be dangerous for members, their families and friends.

Several cult-like groups are active on Ryerson's campus and across the country. Please be very careful since cult-like group recruitment techniques are not always recognizable. Members of these groups can also be students and the identity of the cult-like group is often hidden.
