Salad King International Student Award

The Salad King International Student Awards are sponsored by Mr. Ernest and Mrs. Linda Liu, owners of the popular Salad King Restaurant. Mr. Liu recalls the challenges that he faced as an international student in a new country. The Liu family recognizes that some Ryerson international students overcome similar difficulties and financial burdens in their transition to Ryerson University and life in Canada, and achieve tremendous success. The Salad King International Student Awards focus on recognizing international student leadership during their time at Ryerson. By establishing the annual Salad King International Student Awards, Ernest and Linda Liu demonstrate that Ryerson's neighbours can make a difference in the lives of international students.

Purpose

The Salad King International Student Awards provide recognition and financial assistance to full-time upper-year international students who are registered in any program of study at Ryerson University. The awards celebrate the contributions made by international students and the successes they've achieved during their studies.

Award Value

Four (4) awards are offered along with a monetary reward of $500 each, under the following application categories:

On-Campus Student Leader
Off-Campus Community Builder
Peer Support Mentor
Personal Growth

Criteria

Applicants must be full-time international students holding a valid study permit;
This award is for students in the upper year of their program (2nd year or higher, or graduate students);
Applicants must complete an application form to explain why they deserve to be given the award, with specific examples to demonstrate why they qualify (Weighting 40%);
Applicants must submit one or more letters of recommendation and support (Weighting 40%);
The Salad King International Student Awards are available to students who have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 (Weighting 10%);
Applicants must submit a copy of their current resume (Weighting 10%);
Students must currently be enrolled in courses (includes students participating in Co-op).

Selection

Salad King International Student Awards recipients will be selected by a committee and will be notified in January 2014. While students may only apply for one award, the selection committee reserves the right to consider each applicant under all categories

Submit completed application documents in a sealed envelope to International Student Services, POD-50A by 4:00pm on Friday, December 6, 2013.
